By Harry Awurumibe Apparently afraid of the danger the Nigerian Flamingos pose in their quest to qualify for this summer’s FIFA U -17 Women’s World Cup billed for Jordan, the Bantwana of South Africa sneaked into Abuja in the wee hours of Wednesday aboard South African Airways flight.
The contingent made up of players, coaches, backroom staff and football administrators were immediately moved to the prestigious Bentley Hotel, Abuja where they will plan strategies to stop the Flamingos who have not failed to qualify for the FIFA U-17 soccer event since inception.
Prompt News reliably gathered that the Southern Africans are desperately looking forward to upset the Flamingos at home to make the return leg in Johannesburg a mere academic exercise hence their early arrival.
It was scooped from the South African camp that the early arrival will give them enough time to acclimatize even as they plan to come at the Flamingos in order to get an away goal which will put them on a good platform to fight at home should they lose by a slim margin.
But the Nigerian team’s Head Coach, Bala Nkiyu has dismissed the South African threat with a wave of hands saying they return to former apartheid enclave empty-handed.
According to him, “We (Flamingos) are less concerned if they (Bantwana) are already in Nigeria. If they like let them relocate to Abuja, we will beat them hands down. We have done our homework and by the grace of God victory is ours on Saturday”.
Nkiyu said his team has no injury worries while he has perfected the strategies to adopt against the stubborn South Africans, adding that the Flamingos are rearing to get one more over their opponents both in Nigeria and in South Africa.
He therefore urged the Abuja residents to troop out in large numbers on Saturday to cheer their darling team to victory.
