Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein on Tuesday called on the court of arbitration for Sport to suspend Friday’s FIFA presidential election because of a dispute over voting arrangements.
The Jordanian, one of the five candidates to succeed Sepp Blatter, wants transparent voting booths to be used in the election in Zurich.
However, that was rejected by the FIFA election commission, leading to lawyers for Prince Ali writing to sport’s highest court.
In a statement his lawyers said:” FIFA opposed our request for an accelerates procedure so that these question could be decided before February 26. It was therefore natural that Prince Ali goes to the CAS”.
Sheik Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa and Gianni Infantino are the two favourites for the election while Tokyo Sexwale and Jerome Champagne are also standing.
