To ensure unhindered continuity of the development programmes in Edo state, some residents of Benin City have told Governor Adams Oshiomhole to search for a worthy successor who would take over from him from November 12, this year and continue with the people-oriented projects in the state.
The residents who made the appeal during the Governor’s inspection of roads projects at Upper Lawani Street and 2nd East Circular Road in Benin City said a wrong candidate would return the state to the dark days.
One of the residents of Upper Lawani Street, Mr. Felix Irorere said, “I am praying for you because when you came, you did not meet anything on ground. You have labored so much, let nobody destroy your work. Make sure that whether people talk or not, make sure you chose somebody who will be able to take after you and not undo what you have done.
“Don’t be ashamed or afraid, don’t look at their faces, make sure the right person comes in. You will live long”.
At 2nd East Circular Road, a resident of the area Mrs. Eunice Obazee said, “We are very happy to see that Oshiomhole is working on the road. Now we can transport ourselves from here to New Benin. This road was very bad before now, you couldn’t pass through Uwa Street to New Market and vehicles coming stops half way but now, the road is in good shape. We will support and vote for whosoever he brings out to succeed him.
Mrs. Goodness Akudike said “He has done so well for us because many governments abandoned this road for years. He is the only person that understands and remembered this road, so I am very grateful, I love him so much and I thank him”.
Also speaking, Mr. Ikponwosa Ohenhen said, “I really appreciate him, he has done well. At least, in his time, there is proof of leadership in this state. This road was not good before now, even getting to Uwa Street was impossible. Even rebuilding Uwa Street to St Joseph alone is very okay by me.”
Another resident of the area, Mrs. Lucy Arewan said “This road was very bad before, no vehicle could pass through this area before, it was that bad. God will continue to bless Oshiomhole for us and continue to reward him for us. Oshiobaba really tried for us and we appreciate him”.
On his part, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Lucky Imasuen who could not hide his feelings after a tour of the Ultra-Modern 200-bed Central Hospital, Benin urged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to engage in constructive critic which would move the state forward, saying “when you are on the other side of the isle, you tend to criticize without really looking at what the Comrade Governor is doing.
“I have seen things for myself, this is unbelievable. While State Governors are struggling on how to pay their workers and Pensioners, not only are Pensioners and workers being paid in Edo State, this man is moving the impossible.”
Imasuen said, “I have gone around with him to Upper Mission, Upper Lawani and 2nd East Circular, I have gone on my own to Teachers House and its environs and the man is doing wonderfully well.
“It is good to criticize, I have no objection about that. Opposition is healthy for our democracy but when you criticize, you must do so constructively. That way, when you do criticize, people can then take you seriously. This man is doing magic and personally, I am blown away and it is my hope and prayers that God continue to bless him and give him the wisdom and the ability to continue this wonderful job he started few years ago.
“I am appealing to all Edo people irrespective of your political affiliations to come on board, come and see what he is doing, thank him for what he is doing so we can continue our movement.”
