By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia Government activities were on Friday paralyzed in Lafia and the other Local Government Areas of Nasarawa state, following a strike action embarked upon by the state civil servants.
Prompt News correspondent reports that ministries and other government offices were under lock and keys as workers deserted their places of work to enforce the strike.
Also, Commissioners, permanent secretaries and management staff were prevented from gaining access into their offices.
At Nasarawa state specialist hospital in Lafia, Prompt News saw patients leaving their sick beds due to lack of medical attention as doctors and nurses also joined the ongoing strike.
“We are left with no other option than to go to private hospitals and receive proper medical attention,” one of the patients told our correspondent.
It could be recalled that the organized Labour had last week gave the Nasarawa state government 7 days ultimatum to address all issues raised in their correspondences failure to which they would embark on strike.
“We have written several reminders to the Government on all agreements reached between government and the organized Labour in the state, but to our greatest dismay, government remains recalcitrant,” labour leadership stated.
The organized labour union is demanding immediate release of salary voucher for the month of January, 2016 and payment of salaries to workers, payment of annual increment from 2011 to date, payment of backlog of gratuities and arrears of pensions to retired workers of the state and local governments.
It is also demanding the immediate release of bio -metric /data captured exercise in both state and local governments, implementation of corrected CONMESS for Doctors, as well as the stoppage of salary payment in percentage of local government workers among other things.
