Head coach of Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, has confirmed that the duo of Godfrey Oboabona and Sunday Mba would be massively missed when the CHAN championship kicks off in January 2014 in South Africa.
Mbah and Oboabona have been the backbone of Keshi’s home-based team and integral squad members of the Super Eagles but have secured contracts with European clubs.
Oboabona has signed a four year deal with Turkish club Rizespor while Mbah is said to have undergone medical and almost seal a transfer at French second division side Bastia.
Keshi said “though I am happy for them getting contracts abroad but I will surely miss their services when the CHAN cup gets underway in South Africa next year. Having worked with them for close to two years it is only natural to feel their departure” he pointed out.
He said further “The two players have been the pillars of the home based Eagles and regulars in the main squad and I believe that my loss of them in CHAN would be my gain as their game will improve as foreign based players”
“I know more of the home boys would still leave for Europe and that leaves us with a lot of work to do getting and blending new set of players for CHAN championship next year” Keshi quipped
The former Captain of the Super Eagles restated his belief in the ability of the home grown Eagles to walk into their respective clubs in Europe or elsewhere noting that their patience in blossoming at home has paid off.
