Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Dickson has been re-elected for a second term in office.
The Returning Officer, Prof Akpagu Sunday night declared Mr. Dickson duly elected after collating the results from all the Local Government Areas.
After a re-run election conducted on Saturday, January 9, 2016, in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Dickson, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated his arch rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timipriye Sylva.
Governor Dickson polled a total of 134, 998 votes while the APC candidate, Sylva garnered 86, 852 votes.
In the Southern Ijaw, the PDP candidate floored his main challenger, scoring 23, 081 votes as against Sylva’s 10, 216 votes.
Prompt News recalls that the governorship election which was held on December 5, 2015 was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The electoral body had anchored its decision of widespread violence and glaring cases of ballot snatching, in the Southern Ijaw hence, the decision to order a re-run election in the area.
