Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested two suspects over an attack on vigilante operatives and the subsequent burning of their office in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspects were apprehended at about 1:40am on October 27 in the NEPA area of Jos North during a security operation by troops of Sector 1 of the joint task force.
The Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Capt. Chinonso Oteh, confirmed the arrests to journalists in Jos on Wednesday, saying the suspects were allegedly linked to the assault on vigilante personnel and the destruction of their office by fire.
“The arrest followed allegations linking the suspects to the attack on vigilante personnel and the subsequent setting ablaze of their office,” Oteh said.
He disclosed that the suspects remained in custody for further investigation, adding that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and maintain peace across the state.
Oteh said security personnel would sustain operations to track down individuals involved in acts capable of threatening public safety, assuring residents of the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged residents to assist security agencies with credible information that could help prevent crime and facilitate the arrest of those responsible for criminal activities.
The arrests came days after troops apprehended a suspected fake soldier in Jos North over alleged phone snatching and public disturbance, an incident Oteh also confirmed.
