The era of members of the National Assembly buying cars for themselves and still collect car loans was over, President Muhammdu Buhari has said.
Recently, the Senate announced that it would buy vehicles worth over N4.6 billion for Senators to facilitate the discharge of their constitutional duties.
But, President Buhari told the nation during presidential media chat that he had expressed his displeasure over the issue during a closed-door meeting with the NASS members, saying he hoped they would not go ahead.
He recalled turning down a proposal to purchase cars worth N400 million for the Presidency, saying National Assembly should take a cue from that.
On the proposal to buy vehicles worth N400 million for the Presidency, he had this to say, “I said the cars I have are good enough for 10 years.
“I had a closed-door meeting with the National Assembly regarding the cars they are trying to buy.
“I hope they haven’t bought them yet.
“They can’t buy cars for themselves and also take money in car loans,” Buhari insisted.
