Patrick Vieira has been appointed the new head coach of the Terangha Lions of Senegal.
The former French international takes over from Pape Thiaw, who left the role following Senegal’s early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Vieira’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Senegalese Football Federation ,FSF, on Monday.
The FSF declared that the former Arsenal’s midfielder’s appointment is part of a desire to strengthen the technical management of the national team and to meet the sporting ambitions of Senegal.
Discussions are currently continuing between the various parties regarding the administrative and contractual arrangements related to his taking office.
The date of the official presentation of the new Lions coach, as well as the next steps in his installation, will be communicated later by the FSF.
A former French international and 1998 World Cup winner, Patrick Vieira has notably coached several clubs in England and France. His appointment thus opens a new chapter in the history of the Senegalese national A team.
