Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday charged residents to take ownership of every government projects located in their communities and ensure a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
The Governor, who stated this while handing over 33KV Electrical Sub-Station at the Gberigbe Piggery Farm and a Community Hall in Gberigbe, Ikorodu Local Government Area of the State, said the change mantra of the present administration, must be carried beyond rhetoric as it starts with the people who are the real agent of change.
While reiterating that his administration is that of continuity with improvement and better performance, Governor Ambode assured residents of improved inclusive and community-driven projects so as to take advantage of the synergy and complimentary role of the grassroots for viable and sustainable development in the State.
Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Wale Oluwo, noted that the two Community Projects would create job opportunity for the unemployed youths, and would equally be beneficial to the people and attract wealth to the Community and its environs.
He implored the people of the State to take ownership of every project and programme put together by the government and ensure a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, adding that it was important for the people to take the advantage of the productive activities in creating wealth in the communities.
While assuring the people of Gberigbe of the provision of additional three transformers so as to boost the economy and improved standard of living of the people in the area, the Governor, however charged the residents to ensure that the security of lives and properties are given utmost concern.
He said that it was the responsibility of every well-meaning Lagosian to report any suspicious activity within the communities in a timely manner to security agencies through the 112 or 767 toll free lines or directly to the offices of law enforcement agencies.
Besides, Governor Ambode disclosed that the feedback mechanism has also been enhanced through provision of toll free lines to all Local Government Executive Secretaries as well as access through the internet, and thereafter charged residents to take the advantage of the channels to ensure better services more than before.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Muslim Olohuntele-Folami, said that the projects were part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improve infrastructure and to enhance business and good living condition of the citizen.
He said with the projects, the foundation for a bigger and sound community inclusive development has been enhanced, and that the people of Gberigbe and its environs must ensure sustainability of the various projects and programmes provided by the government.
In his goodwill message, Chairman of Gberigbe Community Development Association, Prince Aina Olukorede Amos, thanked the State Government under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for all the good works he has been doing in the State, which he said are geared towards ensuring good standard of living for the citizenry.
