Three men convicted over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State were overcome with emotion after an Oyo State High Court sentenced them to life imprisonment for terrorism related offences.
The convicts, Abdulrazak Umar, also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid, Yunusa Musa, alias Yunusa Bin Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani, popularly called Abu Itisar, were prosecuted by the Department of State Services for their roles in the kidnapping.
A video circulating on social media shortly after the judgment showed some of the convicts wiping away tears as security operatives escorted them from the courtroom following the sentencing.
The court found the trio guilty of belonging to a proscribed terrorist organisation and imposed life imprisonment on each of them.
The case stemmed from the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers in Orire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026.
The victims regained their freedom on July 10 after spending nearly two months in captivity.
