A devastating thunderstorm has claimed the lives of six children and left two others injured in Dadiri Tirgali village, Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, when lightning struck a group of children who were working on a farm in the community.
Reports indicate that about eight minors were on the farmland when the thunderstorm hit, killing six of them instantly.
The two survivors sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility, where they are receiving treatment.
Reacting to the incident, the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Christopher Nathaniel, expressed deep sadness over the loss of the young lives.
In a condolence message, Nathaniel described the tragedy as heartbreaking, saying it had plunged the people of Ganye Chiefdom and the entire state into mourning.
He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, the residents of Dadiri Tirgali, the Gangwari Ganye, and the people of Ganye Local Government Area.
He prayed for comfort for the grieving families and urged the affected community to remain strong in the face of the painful loss.

Ganye Local Government Area is widely recognised as one of Adamawa State’s major agricultural hubs, renowned for the large scale cultivation of food crops, particularly yam.
