By Victoria Hanson                    The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the state Governor, Mr. Akinkunmi Ambode to direct the ministry of Information and strategy to commence urgent publicity of the basic provisions of the environmental sanitation law (2000) with a view to sensitize members of the public of the expectation of the law and appropriate sanctions prescribed for contraventions.
In a motion moved by the Chief Whip, Hon (Mrs) Omotayo Oduntan, it was aimed at achieving a decent environment in Lagos state and the maintenance of its megacity status.
She also stressed the need for the ministry of environment to engage the environmental agencies available to it as well as local government councils to commence enforcement of the law after a given period as directed by the government.
In addition, the governor was also enjoined to direct all executive secretaries of local government and local council Development areas to ensure that no suit is removed or evacuate during construction or maintenance of drains on the road side beyond 48 hours.
Other lawmakers also supported the motion.
Earlier on Tuesday at the plenary, lawmakers screened and confirmed the governor’s nominee as chairman Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Mr Oye Odukole.
The candidate, Mr Oye Odukole Hassan who is from Ogun state told the law makers during the screening exercise that he was ready to raise money for the state through the private sector Initiative.
