Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has confirmed that he will honour an invitation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
El Rufai disclosed this in a post on his official X handle on Friday, a day after an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport which he described as an attempted arrest.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory stated that his legal team had formally informed the commission of his readiness to appear at its office on the scheduled date.
According to him, the invitation letter was delivered shortly after what he alleged was a failed attempt by security operatives to detain him at the airport.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday when security agents attempted to arrest him upon arrival in Abuja from Cairo, Egypt, sparking controversy over the circumstances surrounding the action.
His media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, alleged that the operatives acted without presenting a formal invitation and temporarily seized the former governor’s international passport during the encounter.
El Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the move, describing it as unlawful, while maintaining that his client remained willing to cooperate with authorities provided due process was followed.

Akpan also revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had earlier invited the former governor while he was abroad, adding that his legal team had already notified the agency of his intention to appear voluntarily upon his return to the country.
