JAMB announces date for UTME registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced that registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will begin on January 26 and run until February 28 at approved Computer-Based Test centres across the country.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Saturday in Lagos during a meeting with Commissioners for Education ahead of the 2025 UTME and Direct Entry exercises.

Oloyede said the sale of the UTME application document, known as the ePIN, would commence before the registration proper.

“The sale of UTME application document which is the ePIN, will start earlier than commencement of actual registration which is January 19 to February 26. Actual UTME registration period is between January 26 to February 28 at all approved CBT centres,” he said.

He added that the mock examination selection would close on February 16, while the sale of Direct Entry application documents and ePIN vending would start on March 2 and end on April 25.

“The close of mock selection is February 16 while the sale of DE application documents and ePIN vending will commence on March 2, and close by April 25,” he stated.

The registrar also said the UTME results of underage candidates would not be released immediately, explaining that the board would only make such results available after completing the evaluation process for candidates seeking age waivers.

On monitoring, Oloyede said all CBT centres involved in the registration exercise would be monitored live from JAMB headquarters, warning that centres whose activities could not be viewed would not be paid and their registrations could be invalidated.

He disclosed that 924 centres had been screened and provisionally listed, noting that they would still undergo a final test before being fully accredited for the registration and examination.

Oloyede further clarified that candidates were not expected to pay service charges to CBT centres, stressing that only the registration fees approved by the board should be paid.

Addressing complaints about distant postings, the registrar said the board does not assign candidates to examination towns outside those selected during registration, advising candidates to register early to increase their chances of securing their preferred locations.

He explained that choosing a group of towns means candidates may be posted to any of the towns within the selected group.

The JAMB boss also cautioned candidates to declare any previous registration, admission or related history with the board, noting that some candidates involved in malpractice during last year’s examination had attempted to conceal their records.

According to him, failure to disclose such information is an offence that would attract sanctions.

On age requirements, Oloyede said candidates are generally expected to be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, to be eligible for the UTME and considered for admission.

He added, however, that underage candidates could still be considered for a waiver, but would be subjected to a rigorous evaluation process.
