Nigerians living abroad under the auspices of Nigerians In Diaspora Monitoring Group has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari over the success achieved so far in his bid to end terrorism in Nigeria.
The group who made this known in a press statement signed by its leader, Comrade Philip Agbese, said the group found it necessary to commend the latest efforts of the president as it is the first step to the nation’s prosperity.
The group also expressed its appreciation of the pivotal role played by the intelligence community in the winning of battles, pointing out the recent publication of the most wanted names of these terrorists, which they said is a clear indication that the Armed Forces have woken up from their slumber and really engaging in strategic warfare to capture the terrorists alive, extract useful information as to sources of funding and commence deradicalisation and assimilation back to the society.
Meanwhile the group has also taken a swipe at the previous administration for what it termed lack lustre towards their duty, while stating categorically that it had relegated the DIA to a “mundane and programmed as watch dog for protection of military regimes. The recent overhaul and strategic engineering of this agency by the present administration is not only a thing of joy to us in the Diasporas but a key strategy that has been welcomed by our international partners and actors”.
While commending the intelligence communities DSS, NIA, Police and DIA for the synergy that has yielded military successes, they called on the president to instigate a further inquiry into the DIA in a view to instigate positive reforms aimed at putting it at par with its sister agencies around the world.
“We must thank the intelligence communities of DSS, NIA Police and DIA and in extension other agencies like the Customs, Immigration, FAAN and including all Nigerians for their collective will and determination to end the menace of insurgency. The first victory against terrorism was our collective resolve to see it as national threat against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not criminality against one religion, ethnic or political groupings in Nigeria”. It read in part.
The group has also encouraged the development of human and electronic capacity towards actionable intelligence. According to them “it is in no doubt the hallmark of recent measures being implored by the world powers to combat global terrorism and defend man against man in this evil world. The recent appointment of a fighter pilot who understands the efficacy of electronic warfare and its application is apt”.
