Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan will no longer take charge of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final tie between Nigeria and Algeria, Prompt News reports.
Artan was removed from officiating the highly anticipated encounter after it was discovered that he wore boots from a brand not approved by the tournament’s official sponsors during an earlier game.
The referee’s action breaches CAF’s contractual rules with its commercial partners.
It would be recalled that he was named Referee of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards.
CAF is expected to name a new referee for the game between Super Eagles and the Desert Foxes.
Saturday’s encounter will hold at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
It will kick-off at 5pm Nigeria time.
