Police operatives in Ebonyi State have shot dead a suspected armed robber along the Ehamufu–Nkalagu Road in Ishielu Local Government Area and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

The command also rescued a kidnap victim and arrested three suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate in the Ezzangbo area of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, in a statement on Thursday, said the state had become increasingly hostile to criminal gangs due to intensified operations by security personnel.

According to him, the latest breakthroughs were recorded on November 12 and 13.

He explained that patrol operatives, while responding to gunshots and distress calls along the Ehamufu–Nkalagu axis, met one Ali Solomon being attacked by three armed men attempting to snatch his motorcycle.

“The hoodlums opened fire on sighting the officers but fled. The operatives engaged them, neutralised one suspect and recovered an AK-47 rifle with 10 rounds of ammunition,” Ukandu said.

He added that a day later, operatives tracked down a kidnap syndicate that had abducted one Obasi ThankGod, tied him up and dumped him inside a hotel toilet while demanding a ransom of ₦5m.

“Through diligent intelligence gathering, the victim was rescued and three suspects — Uchenna Ogbozuru, Ebuka Ejiogu and Chizoba Idenyi Ogwa — were arrested,” he stated.

Ukandu added that the suspects remain in custody and would face prosecution upon completion of investigations.

He further noted that the Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid the state of criminals and commended residents for their consistent support and timely information.
