Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu admitted that his players were complacent in the slim victory over Botswana.
The nine-time champions laboured to a 1-0 victory over the Mares in their second game at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday night.
Prompt News reports that Madugu side’s struggled to break down Botswana defence for the majority of the game.
They however got their breakthrough large in the game when substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo slotted home the winning goal.
“We were a bit complacent and we took things for granted and that accounted for the kind of game we had,” he said in the post-match conference.
“Individually we didn’t put up a very good performance, we’re not happy about this.
“It was a tough game, highly competitive.
“Botswana were very spirited, they were determined to get a result.”
