U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday announced that the United States had carried out airstrikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, targeting key sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
U.S. B-2 bombers were involved in the strikes, a U.S. official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“The strikes were a spectacular military success,” Trump said in a televised address. “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.”
An Iranian official, cited by Tasnim news agency, confirmed part of the Fordow site was attacked by “enemy airstrikes.” However, a local lawmaker told the semi-official Fars news agency the facility had not been seriously damaged.
Iranian media quoted Iran’s nuclear body as saying there were no signs of contamination after the attacks, and no danger to residents living nearby.
In a statement shared via his Truth Social platform, Trump described the operation as a “very successful attack,” noting that U.S. military aircraft had completed their mission and exited Iranian airspace without incident.
“A full payload of bombs was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,” Trump stated.
“All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American warriors.”
He concluded the announcement by calling for peace, adding, “There is no other military in the world that could have done this. Now is the time for peace.”
