Tensions persist in Esa Oke as residents continue to oppose the appointment of Prince Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle.
In response to the growing unrest, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced plans to establish a panel to investigate the violent clashes that recently erupted in the town.
The Esa-Oke Central Union, on Monday, alleged that attackers dressed in police uniforms invaded the community, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and multiple injuries.
The group attributed the crisis to the installation of a non-indigene as a traditional ruler in a part of Esa Oke.
However, the Osun State Police Command denied claims that its officers fired at residents.
Instead, the command stated that seven of its personnel were wounded in an ambush while attempting to restore order.
During a peace meeting in Esa Oke on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke stated that his visit was aimed at identifying the root cause of the crisis.
He explained that he had deliberately refrained from imposing a curfew, hoping that peace could be restored through dialogue.
Reaffirming his commitment to ensuring justice, Adeleke assured residents that those responsible for the violence would be held accountable.
“It is unfortunate that the palace and shops were affected. Disagreements are normal, but resorting to violence, destruction, and loss of lives is unacceptable,” he said.
The governor also warned against external forces exploiting the situation for political gains, adding that acts of arson against the palace were unacceptable.
“I do not believe any true indigene of Esa Oke would set the palace on fire. Anyone who does such a thing is not a true son or daughter of this land,” he stated.
Governor Adeleke further assured the community that a thorough investigation would be conducted and that justice would be served regardless of who was involved.
“If you have grievances, submit a petition, and I will act on it. There is no need for violence because I am committed to ensuring fairness,” he said.
He concluded by emphasizing his administration’s dedication to restoring peace and taking necessary steps to prevent future disturbances.
