On Wednesday, gunmen killed Chinedu Nwowu, a lawyer based in Imo State, in Mgbidi, Oru West Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, Nwowu was driving along the Mgbidi highway around 7:00 p.m. when the attackers blocked his car.
One witness described the incident: “We saw a car overtake the victim’s car recklessly, and then, before our eyes, armed men jumped out and stopped his vehicle. They dragged him out, shot him multiple times, and quickly drove off. We were terrified and stayed on the ground, unable to help.”
The attack lasted less than five minutes, leaving no time for nearby residents to alert security forces. The victim was later rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the killing on Thursday and reassured the public that the police were investigating the case.
