Rangers centre-back Leon Balogun has declared that he has not retired from international football.
At 36, many has considered Balogun’s time with Nigeria over despite his impressive performance at club level.
The defender’s last appearance for the three-time African champions was in 2022 against Sao Tome and Principe.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion star has however said he is still available for selection.
“It’s not that I’ve not accepted an invitation. Unfortunately, right before the World Cup break, I suffered an injury that was supposed to last a few weeks but didn’t go the way it was supposed to,” he told Brila FM.
“I just couldn’t come I was not fit yet and after I got fit, then I relapsed but since then I haven’t had a lengthy injury spell.
“I have always been available. I’ve never said that I retired from international football, and I think the people who need to know are aware that I’m still very much willing and ambitious to represent the national team.”
Balogun has made 46 appearances for the Super Eagles, with one goal to his name.
