In a bid to keep football stakeholders safe in the stadia across the country, the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) at the weekend hosted the 14th CAF Safe Stadium Initiative in Banjul the capital of Gambia.
The brainchild of CAF Head of Safety and Security Department, Dr. Christian Ifeanyivhukwu Emeruwa, no fewer than 14 countries including the West African nation Gambia have hosted the programme designed to train Safety and Security Officers who will man the stadia across the countries during football matches.
Speaking in Banjul at the end of the two-day training, Emeruwa thanked the Gambian authorities for the great cooperation the CAF team received while in the country, pointing out that he believes the participants learned alot which will enable them impact knowledge to others.
Said he:.”We appreciate the huge support from the GFF. CAF will continue to push forward with this initiative across its 54 member association.
” A new era in managing safety and security operations at football stadiums across Africa is needed and can only be achieved through capacity development of the role players”.
Aside Gambia other countries that have hosted the programme include Kenya, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Eswatini, Ugandan, Tanzania among others.
