An Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced one John Dusu to 12 months imprisonment for stealing a generator, pumping machine and 13 chickens all valued at worth N 273,000.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N50,000 fine or 12 months imprisonment for theft, and asked him to pay a compensation of N270,000 or 12 months in default.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Labaran Ahmed, told the court that the case was reported at the A Division Police Station Jos, on Aug. 20, by Ms Abigail Kemetu.
He said the complainant said the accused person came to her house and stole her generator pumping machine and 13 chickens valued at N273,000.
The prosecutor further told the court that during a police investigation, the accused person confessed to have committed the offence.
The offence he said contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria. (NAN).
