Iraq has submitted a complaint to the United Nations Security Council that the Israeli Air Force used its airspace to attack Iran on October 26, an Iraqi government spokesman said.
The spokesman, Basim Alawadi, said on Monday in an official statement that Israel had blatantly violated Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty.
Iraq “will not allow Iraqi airspace or land to be used for attacks on other nations, particularly neighbouring countries with whom Iraq shares mutual respect and interests,” it said.
It added that “this stance reflects Iraq’s commitment to regional stability, aiming to prevent the use of its territory in regional conflicts.
There is a border of around 1,500 kilometres between Iraq and Iran.
Iran has great influence in its neighbouring country.
More than a dozen political parties in Iraq have ties to Iran, and many of Iraq’s militias also remain loyal to Tehran.
The protest is also directed against the United States, which controls Iraqi airspace as part of military cooperation.
Baghdad said they would also discuss this violation with the U.S. side. (dpa/NAN).
