Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) has presented certificates of return to the 23 newly-elected local government chairmen, following the council elections held recently in the state.
During the presentation of the certificates at the commission’s headquarters in Kaduna, KAD-SIECOM Chairman, Hajara Mohammed, described the election as a landmark.
Mohammed said that the election was conducted in line with the provisions of the State Electoral Law, 2024.
She said that the election was the sixth to be organised by the commission since its establishment in 2000.
The commission chairman also noted that this would be the first time that elected council members would be handing over to their newly-elected counterparts, thus making it historic.
“This is a remarkable occasion in the history of our state, where certificates are being issued to those who emerged victorious in the 2024 local government elections,” she said.
While congratulating the winners, Mohammed reminded them of the importance of fulfilling their campaign promises, emphasising that they were elected by the people to serve and must, therefore, strive to meet their expectations.
The KAD-SIECOM chairman also praised the dedication and professionalism of the commission’s staff, including the Permanent Electoral Commissioners, the Secretary, heads of departments, field officers and ad-hoc staff.
She acknowledged their efforts in ensuring smooth election process.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work of our staff and the support of the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who is committed to strengthening democracy in the state,” she said.
Mohammed also commended the eight political parties that participated in the exercise, noting that their involvement made the contest possible.
The Chairman-elect of Soba Local Government Council, Muhammad Shehu, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, assured that they would uphold their campaign promises and serve the people at the grassroots effectively.
Shehu also expressed gratitude to the governor and the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) for their support, pledging to work closely with the state government to further its development agenda at the local government level. (NAN).
