The KB Klub has held its 55th Annual Philanthropic Day at the Marda Barracks, Yaba, Lagos, reinforcing its commitment to philanthropy and social empowerment.

Themed “Even Heroes Need Savings,” the event focused on prostate cancer screening and mental health awareness and counseling for military personnel and their families, addressing critical health issues that are often overlooked within the armed forces.

President of the KB Klub, Mr. Madehin Mustapha, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to empowering communities and improving lives through continuous service.

“The Klub believes that even those who serve as heroes deserve access to preventive healthcare and mental well-being resources,” Madehin said.

He expressed his gratitude to all partners and volunteers for their contributions towards the success of the organisation.

This year’s event attracted over 100 men and women, including the families of soldiers, with the military personnel expressing appreciation for the health screenings and mental health sessions.

Many attendees noted that they felt more empowered to prioritize their health and committed to regular check-ups going forward.

Founded in 1969 at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, the KB Klub has built a legacy of philanthropic service and social empowerment.

This year’s event aimed at reducing male mortality by promoting the early detection of prostate cancer and providing much-needed mental health support.

Several activities were carried out during the event to support participants’ health and well-being, such as prostate cancer screening and mental health awareness and counselling.

Over 40 military personnel underwent free prostate cancer screening.

Experts from Mentally Aware Nigerian Initiative (MANI) and the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba led sessions on anxiety management and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The military officers were also offered private counselling to reduce stigma and promote mental well-being.

The event featured insightful discussions by renowned speakers such as Dr. Muhammad Habeebu, an alumnus of the KB Klub and Chief Clinical Coordinator at the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre, who highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare in combating prostate cancer.

Dr. Ajayi, a senior registrar at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, facilitated a session on PTSD and how military personnel can manage the condition effectively.

Miss Aisha Adelore from MANI offered practical tips on managing anxiety and maintaining emotional well-being.

The success of the 55th Annual Philanthropic Day project reflects the KB Klub’s dedication to serving society and addressing critical needs.
