The Police in Ondo State have called for respect and cooperation among supporters of political parties to ensure peace and harmony in the state.
Mr Abayomi Oladipo, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, made the call while parading 12 suspects arrested for various crimes before newsmen on Thursday in Akure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Ondo Governorship Election is scheduled to hold on Nov.16 in the state.
According to him, there have been minor reports of intimidation as we approach the period where the fate of the state will be decided by its people.
“I want to categorically state that any form of intimidation or harassment will not be tolerated.
“I urge all political figures, particularly those seeking office, to promote respect and cooperation among their supporters.
“This will serve as an enabling ground for a peaceful exercise and, in general, a peaceful Ondo State for all,” he said.
Oladipo also said that the offences committed by the suspects included, but were not limited to murder, armed robbery, arson, and theft.
The CP said that the command had, in the past weeks, made significant strides in apprehending suspects involved in serious offenses.
According to him, the command is resolute in it’s commitment to tackling crime and maintaining public order because we are determined to ensure protection of lives and properties in Ondo State.
“In the past few weeks, two suspects were arrested for murder, one.for arson; four for stealing; one for attempted robbery; two for armed robbery and two for burglary and stealing.
“Items recovered include three cut-to-size single barrel gun, one dane gun, one motorcycle, one LG TV, one standing fan, three scales, one vulcanizer machine.
“Others are 6kg cylinder, 50kg filled cylinder, 40kg cylinder, five 5kg cylinder, three 3kgs, 12kg cylinder and cable wires among others,” he said. (NAN).
