Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen has offered an explanation on why he overlooked Tolu Arokodare and Cyriel Dessers in his squad for the team’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Libya.
Eguavoen kept faith with the duo of Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho, who have failed to make positive impact with their respective clubs this season.
The coach however, justified the inclusion of Iheanacho, saying he’s more experienced.
Arokodare and Dessers, who have scored on regular basis this season were however snubbed by the gaffer.
Dessers has scored seven times and registered one assist for Scottish Premiership club, Rangers.
Arokodare on the other hand has scored six goals in the Belgian Pro League for KRC Genk.
“I decided to include Kelechi Iheanacho of Seville when it became clear Victor Osimhen would not be fit in time,” Eguavoen told Afrik Foot.
“I looked at both Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare, but opted for Kelechi this time because he is the more experienced striker.”
