Heartland Football Club’s Technical Adviser Emmanuel Amuneke has described as a big morale booster his team’s 2-0 defeat of the highly-rated Niger Tornados of Minna in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) week 5 match at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Sunday.
Two goals in each half of the game scored by newly acquired player Ogu Michael who got a brace in his debut with the first goal coming in the 20″ while the second on the day came in the 60″ handed Heartland FC a deserved 2-0 victory over Niger Tornados.
The heartwarming result has eased the pressure, at least temporarily, on Amuneke and his young guns after a poor start to the season.
By this victory, Heartland bagged its first three points of the season and have now earned four points in five matches after losing three of the five games of the current season. The team is now in the 16th position on the table.
However, Amuneke has told Prompt News that the win over Niger Tornados is the tonic the team needs to overcome its initial setbacks in the league, adding that the long-suffering players will at least experience the joy of victory and can progress from here.
Said he: “my players and coaching staff needed this win and our teeming supporters deserved to be happy. So I glad we have broken the jinks of not winning a game in our four previous attempts”.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup winning coach of Golden Eaglets has expressed his optimism that Heartland can build on the defeat of a good team like Niger Tornados to kick-start a good run in the league.
“I believe our victory on Sunday will spur my boys to action and make them to fight for three points in every match till the end of the season. I trust in this young boys and they will come good with time, it’s a gradual process”, Amuneke said.
