The board of FCT Cricket Association under the Chairmanship of Engineer Emeka Onyeama, has held a one-day seminar and conference for selected Schools Principals in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.
The conference is in line with its program of reviving the game of Cricket in the nation’s capital.
Engineer Onyeama while addressing the participants said the board decided to hold a consultation with the Principals as part of the cricket revival agenda.
His words, “Sports is no longer a play, Sports is now a big business. The Principals should know that by the time they groom 22 players in their Schools playing cricket, 800 other students who are not playing, their eyes are there, this is how Sports are running, if this synergy is not there, we cannot achieve our aims.
“As an Association, we are here to support Schools and support education departments whatever they need, providing them with technical resources, technical capacity at any point in time to make sure the Schools is in line with Sports”. Emeka boasts.
Onyeama, who was a former President, Nigeria Cricket Federation assured that the Schools Sports Masters or Game Masters will also receive training as part of the cricket revival program.
He spoke further, “We intend to build for schools who have little space a high performance centers, called Practicing Net, where students can practice cricket during their PE lessons or on their own.
As a way of encouraging the students, we are also going to provide scholarships for those who merit it and also make sure the schools that are encouraging this game are compensated”.
Director, FCT Schools Sports Development, Adamu Ashiru Ojah commended the initiative, promised that the Schools will make their students and space available as a way of collaborating with the Association in the development of the game in the FCT.
FCT Cricket Association through the Chairman, Emeka Onyeama provided the 13 selected Schools with some Cricket training equipment to help their students in their training.
