Akpom could not hold back his excitement after playing his best game for Ajax.
“It’s amazing, I thank God, I thank my team mates, all the staff for all the support. I had my best match in an Ajax shirt today (Thursday) so I’m happy,” Akpom told his the Ajax TV.
“Scoring is what I thrive on, it’s what I love to do, so when it’s not happening it gets frustrating but I’m a very positive and persistent person, so I say thank you to the coach for the trust.”
The Nigerian-born striker spoke of his goals: “The first one was like a big weight off my shoulders and I had to take the penalty because if anyone was also on a hat-trick, I’d have given them.”
Akpom said Ajax will wrap up qualification to the money-spinning group stage of the Europa League at home next week Thursday.
“We’re a step closer to the Europa League, let’s get the job done on Thursday and carry on into the league,” he declared.
