The Police Command in Delta has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered dangerous weapons.
SP Bright Edafe, the command`s Public Relations Officer, said this while addressing newsmen on the arrest on Monday in Warri.
Edafe said that the suspects were arrested by the Police Anti-crime Patrol team of the Oghara Division during a stop-and-search operation at Otefe-Ijomi community road.
According to him, the suspects are students of the Delta Polytechnic, Otefe, Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the suspects were arrested on Aug. 14, when a motorcycle carrying them was intercepted.
“The police team subjected the suspects to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun with six live cartridges was recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected to be members of Arrow Barger Confraternity,” he said.
Edafe said that the matter was still under investigation and assured that they suspects would be prosecuted.
He said that the command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing members of a kidnap syndicate in Oghara.
The spokesman said that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, received intelligence on Tuesday that some hoodlums had perfected plans to kidnap some innocent citizens.
He said that the DPO, upon receipt of the information, swiftly mobilised to the suspects’ hideout inside a bush on the Otefe/Ovade Legit Road.
“The DPO swiftly mobilised to the suspects’ hideout. On sighting the police, the hoodlums took to their heels with various degrees of gunshot injuries sustained from the police,” he said.
Edafe said that one AK-47 Rifle, one Magazine, one English pump action gun and one locally made cut-to-size gun were recovered from them. (NAN).
