Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has advised youths in the state to disregard calls urging them to come out for protest which could lead to violence.
Yahaya made the call in Gombe on Wednesday while inaugurating the 2024 desilting of major storm drains in Gombe metropolis.
He said that violence had never benefitted the youths, hence there was no need to answer such calls to engage in whatever may lead to violence and destruction of lives and property.
According to him, engaging in violence could portend grave danger for everyone, stressing that the escalation of any crisis has the capacity to consume everyone.
He said that the impact of crisis as seen in Ukraine, Russia, Libya and Sudan as well as some states in the North-East of Nigeria were good reasons for youths to ignore any call for violence.
“Do not allow anyone to instigate you to engage in violence; whoever asks you to go for (violent) protest is cheating you, your parents and the nation.
“So do not engage in any protest; if we allow crisis to enter the North, where will we go? We will run and leave our houses,” he said.
The governor urged the youths in the state to remain peaceful and guard the prevailing peace in the state, assuring that government was working to ensure the wellbeing and welfare of the citizens. (NAN).
