            NUJ

Following the death of three journalists on Friday evening, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday declared seven days mourning in their honour.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, NUJ National President, Garba Mohammed, directed that all activities of the union at the chapels, state and national levels be suspended throughout the mourning period.

While condoling with the families of the deceased, he also directed all state chapels to open condolence register as well as at the national headquarters.

Garba used the occasion to renew call for national insurance scheme for Nigerian journalists because of the hazards associated with their job.

The NUJ President also thanked Osun state government for its support for the victims. The three journalists were involved in lone accident that occurred along Ilesa-Ile-Ife Highway on their way from Abuja.

The deceased were, Kafayat Odunsi of Nigerian Television Authority, Adolphus Okonkwo of Voice of Nigeria and Tunde Oluwanike of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria while some sustained injuries.
