The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Republic of Egypt have pledged to enhance their partnership for effective water resources management.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Fauod in Abuja on Friday.
He highlighted the longstanding cordial relationship between the two nations, noting that continued collaboration would enhance water resources management and boost irrigated agriculture.
Utsev announced that he would lead the Nigerian delegation to the upcoming Cairo Water Conference in Egypt later this year.
He stated, “This conference will allow both countries to share practical knowledge and technical expertise, fostering mutual learning and advancements in water management and dam development.”
Ambassador Fauod explained that his visit aimed to rekindle the partnership and remind the Minister about the forthcoming Cairo Water Conference.
“The conference will provide an opportunity for both nations to sign MOUs on advanced water management technologies and engage in critical discussions, including scholarship programmes for students in this field,” Fauod noted.
According to him, both countries enjoy cordial relationships in many areas, saying such cooperation had seen a positive impact in their citizens’ lives.
He said his country would continue the partnership in various aspects of water management, flood management, Irrigation, crop cultivation, and sanitation.
Fauod said the strengthened collaboration between both countries was expected to bring significant advancement in water resources management, economical and environmental development. (NAN).
