The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that 1,471 people died in road accidents in the first quarter of 2024.
Ccording to the NBS report, the Federal Capital Territory, Ogun, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Oyo states recorded the highest frequency of road accidents.
In its just-released report titled “Road Transport Data Q1, 2024” the total number of road crashes in the first quarter of 2024 was 2,662, indicating a decrease of 2.02 per cent from the fourth quarter which recorded 2,717 cases.
On a year-on-year basis, the cases dropped by 3.00 per cent from the 2,733 reported in the first three months of 2023.
The NBS said in the data that serious accident cases stood at 1,715, fatal 693 and minor cases 254.
It added that 1,085 private cars, 2,806 commercial vehicles, 58 government cars and three diplomat vehicles were involved during the period under review.
Out of the 2662 cases recorded, FCT topped the state with the most accident cases at 273. READ ALSO:

Ogun recorded 200 cases, Kaduna stood at 180, Nasarawa at 169 and Oyo state had 131 accident cases.
However, Kaduna state had the highest record of injured victims at 828 with the highest death of 171.
