House of Representatives Committee on Sports on Thursday made it known that the Committee was not on any mission to witch hunt any Sports body but to find out the level of preparations towards Paris Olympics Games.
The Committee Chairman Hon. Ekene made this known during an interactive session with the body of Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, which was later postponed due to non-availability of its President, Engr. Abu Gumel.
The members of the Green Chamber insisted that the President of the NOC must appear in person to update Nigerians on the level of preparations and developments ahead of the forthcoming Paris Olympics starting in July, this year.
Hon. Ekene said there was a need for the Committee to exercise its oversight functions in the interest of Nigerians and athletes that would be flying the nation’s flag in France starting from July.
In his words, “We asked that they should please ask their president to appear on Thursday. Because Nigerians want to hear from him.
The FG has an interest in sports, and the President demonstrated it in his one-year anniversary speech.
“We have asked the Olympic Committee to appear before the House to brief us properly about the preparation for the Olympics.
“We felt we should invite him in person and let him respect the country.
“It will never happen under my watch that those who suffered to support the country won’t get their money. It will never be in my watch, and it will never be in the watch of other members of this Commitee.
“We are not fighting anybody. We want to set the records straight. READ ALSO:
