Mr Lasisi Ogundele, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom, has reiterated the importance of beginning early to inculcate safety consciousness in children.
Ogundele made the expression in Uyo on Tuesday at the closing of a quiz completion organised by the corps for some schools in the state.
He said that from the formative stage, parents and guardians should teach their children how to be safety conscious.
The sector commander said that safety precaution would become a lifestyle for the children if they imbibed it early in life
“Children that learnt about road safety rules very early in life will grow up to make such rules a part of them,” he said.
Ogundele said that the major essence of the competition was to kindle the children’s interest in general safety.
“Although they were also tested in Mathematics, English Language and Current Affairs, we used this competition to make them to understand the importance of being safety conscious,” he said.
He said the FRSC was deeply interested in the safety and well-being of the younger generation.
“We organised this quiz to let the leaders of tomorrow to understand that we care for them in terms of their safety.

“So, we all have to work together to teach them how to follow safety tips in the interest of their lives and that of others,” he said.
NAN reports that a total of 15 schools participated in the competition with Fellowship High School Idoro, coming first position.
NAN further reports that Monef Secondary School and JEGOWIB International Leaders School all in Uyo, came second and third positions respectively.(NAN)
