The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, has charged parents, guardians and caregivers across the country to always celebrate the children, describing them as “our future and unique gift from God.”

Ooni gave the charge on Monday while celebrating this year’s Children’s Day with over 5,000 pupils from schools in Ile-Ife and environs.

The traditional ruler said that “children are the heritage of God.’”

Oba Ogunwusi emphasised that children are the future of the community and the hope of the nation.

According to him, they are the mirror, light and future leaders that we all need to honour and value.

The traditional ruler admonished parents to mode their children socially and should ensure proper mentoring for them to eschew all evils.

Ooni appealed to the children to always honour their parents and be a good ambassador of the society.

Also, Queen Temitope Ogunwusi, the Deputy Convener of the programme, urged the children to grow with the fear of God for them to get to their promised land.

“The way to achieve success in life is to listen to your parents, elderly ones, your teachers, and know the way of the Lord.

“Children should not depart from the way of the Lord throughout their days on the land of living,” she stated.

She acknowledged parents for their care for the children, stressing the need for adequate protection and support for them at all times.

Similarly, the Wife of Osun Deputy Governor, Mrs Olusola Adewusi, lauded Ooni and the Queen for their kind gesture towards the children and indigenes of Ile-Ife at large.

Adewusi urged the children to be good ambassadors of their families and always see themselves as the leaders of tomorrow.

“You need to work in the way of the Lord, obey your parents, face your studies, be focused on your future aspiration and work towards achieving it,” she advised.

Adewusi warned them against joining bad gang in the society, charging them to portrait themselves as a well trained children, for them to bring out the best.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that almost all the schools in Ile-Ife and its environs attended the programme. (NAN)
