Residents of the ancient town of Afin in the Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, renowned for their farming activities, have raised the alarm over an invasion of strange insects.
During a visit by PROMPT NEWS correspondent, it was observed that the insects were present in large numbers, both in the town and on surrounding farms.
Further investigation revealed that many farmers are on the verge of abandoning their fields due to the infestation, which has also disrupted social activities in the area.
Two farmers, Alhaji Abu Balogun and Williams Babarinde, expressed concerns about the insects.
They fear that the offensive odor emitted by the insects could lead to a serious epidemic if not urgently addressed by the government.
According to them, efforts to eliminate the insects using hot water and Gammalin 20 have been unsuccessful.
Residents are unable to prepare food or eat outdoors for fear of contamination.
In a conversation with the monarch, the Alafin of Afin, Oba Professor Abduraheem Mustapha Adejoro, it was revealed that the issue has been discussed in the Oba-in-Council. READ ALSO:
