Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has approved the release of N637.5 million for payment of registration fees and monthly allowances of indigent students of College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri.
Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Mallam Bala Isa, made this known while briefing newsmen on the development on Monday in Maiduguri.
Isa said that the amount was made up of N393.5 million for monthly allowances of 1,088 students at N30,000 each per month from January to December.
“The sum of N202.5 million is for allowance to be paid to another set of 1,013 students, while the sum of N41.3 million is for registration fees of 997 newly-admitted students on scholarship in the college,” he said.
The executive secretary said that the governor had advised the students to be hard working, as the state government was ready to employ all of them to work for communities in their respective local government areas at the end of their training.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to education, particularly with the measures being taken to encourage education at all levels.
Isa also urged citizens of the state to make maximum use of the opportunities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the categories of students to benefit from the government support comprised those studying National Diploma in Nursing, Community Nursing, Community Midwifery and Basic Midwifery. (NAN)
