The Commissioner of Police in Niger, Mr Shawulu Ebenezer, has presented cheques for N44 million to families of deceased personnel who lost their lives in active duties between 2022/2023.
Ebenezer presented the cheques to the deceased personnel families on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in Minna on Thursday.
He said the families were invited for collection of the cheques under the Group Life Assurance Scheme of the force, saying that the gesture was to provide some token to their next of kin.
“Unfortunately sometimes in the course of duty, some personnel paid the supreme price, I pray may the families find solace and comfort in the Lord,” he said.
He noted that the token was to reduce the suffering of the families and advised them to use the money judiciously to improve their families’ living condition.
The CP said the Group Life Assurance Scheme was in addition to other benefits within the police force for the families and admonished the them to utilise the token wisely for a better standard of living.
