A traditional ruler, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, in Epe Division, has urged students to be diligent in their studies in order to better their performance and secure their future.
The traditional ruler gave the advice on Thursday in Epe, at the presentation of scholarship to four students of Pobuna Grammar School, Odo-Noforija.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogunlaja gave N100,000 to each of the students.
The traditional ruler said the gesture was to reward academic excellence and encourage students in his domain to work hard.
Ogunlaja said he initiated the scholarship in 2020 and that many students ,including those in tertiary institutions in Odo-Noforija ,had benefitted.
“No fewer than 15 students from Michael Otedola College of Education (MOCPED), now Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), have benefited from our annual scholarship .
“The higher institution is within my community and the scholarship is just my own little way of supporting their education career.
“I even offered a student scholarship to study abroad ,and I have been responsible for the payment of his school fees for the past three years .
“I did not know him before giving him the scholarship, nor did I know his parents. He was one of the best graduating students of MOCPED and I offered the scholarship to support his career.
“This year, I decided to offer scholarship to junior and secondary school students of Pobuna Grammar School for their exceptional performance, and to encourage them to work harder”, he said.
He said the beneficiaries: Abubakri Nimot (JSS3), Adeyemi Bethany (JSS2), Adenuga David (SS1), and Suliat Ogundeko (SS2),were recommended for the scholarship by teachers of the school.
