Bayelsa Chief Judge, Justice Matilda Ayemieye, on Wednesday, honoured 18 retirees of the state High Court for their ‘meritorious service’ to the judiciary.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ayemieye, who also presented awards to the honourees, commended Gov. Douye Diri for creating an enabling environment for the judiciary to function.
The chief judge said that the retirees were still part of the judiciary family as far as they are living, adding that some of them would be retained as contract staff.
“All of you have done the Bayelsa judiciary proud. Without your contributions, we wouldn’t have been where we are today.
“Today, I call on the judiciary workers to put in their best, without any bitterness. I also appeal to the staff members to always report to work early and regularly.
“All of you have put in years of meritorious services in the state judiciary. I commend you for your inputs in moving the judiciary forward,” she said.
NAN reports that Ayemieye presented gift items to the retirees at the occasion, which was described as an epoch-making event in the annals of the state judiciary.
The Chief Registrar of the high court, Amaebi Orukari, had earlier thanked the chief judge for hosting the retirees, while also appreciating the honourees for their services to the judiciary.
On his part, Chairman of the state chapter of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Temekori Derikebamoh, expressed gratitude to the chief judge for honouring the retiring members of the union.
The spokesperson for the high court, Julius Nyananyo, also one of the awardees, commended Ayemieye for the honour done to them as they bowed out of service.
He urged other workers to always take their work seriously, as they too would be honoured someday for their meritorious service to the judiciary. (NAN). READ ALSO:
