The Plateau Chapter of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCN) has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang on prompt payment of workers salaries.
Mrs Leah Gopar, Chairman of the association gave the commendation at a one-day seminar
organised for members of the association on Friday in Jos.
She also commended the governor over payment of salary arrears ,owed workers by previous administrations in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls Mutfwang on assumption of office on May 29, met all civil servants ,who had been on strike over non payment of salaries ,on plans to address the problem.
Gopar said that the governor had demonstrated uncommon leadership for addressing some of the yearnings of workers in the state.
”Let me use this opportunity to thank our Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for clearing the backlog of salaries left behind by the past administration.
”He has also ensured prompt payment of salaries since he assumed office.
”The governor has indeed demonstrated commitment toward ensuring that the civil service is functioning effectively, ”she said.
The chairman called on the state government to keep prioritising the welfare of workers for optimal productivity.
Gopar called on the state government to implement the agreement reached between the Federal Government and the labour unions on the payment of the N35, 000 wage award designed to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.
She explained that the seminar, an annual event, was organised to keep its members abreast of current realities, particularly in the work place.
”This seminar is put together in continuation of our commitment to ensure capacity development and improvement of our members in the state.
”This is in line with the policy of government on training and retraining of workers,”she said.
Declaring the exercise open, Mr Sam Jatau, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), represented by Mr Lawandi Datti, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, described the exercise as timely.
He commended the association for organising the seminar, adding that it would complement government’s efforts in the area of capacity building for its workforce.
”This will promote effective social dialogue in the workplace with the ‘Time is Now’ mantra of the present administration,”Jatau said.
The SSG, who called on workers in the state to show high level of transparency in the workplace, urged them to support the present administration to succeed.(NAN). READ ALSO:
