The Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed to second reading the proposed 2024 Appropriation Bill of N270.1 billion.
The request for this progression came from the Assembly Leader, Alhaji Bello Idris (APC-Gwadabawa North), after a thorough debate on the budget presented by Gov. Ahmed Aliyu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Aliyu on Friday presented the proposed 2024 budget to the state legislature, tagged: ‘’Budget of hope and resilience for infrastructural development’’.
The governor said Personnel costs is pegged at N46.9 billion, Overhead N50.9 billion, and Capital expenditure N172.2 billion.
He added that Education has the largest allocation at N42.9 billion, followed by Health N31.2 billion, Works and Transport N18.8 billion, and Agriculture N10.3 billion.
During the debate, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu (APC-Yabo) commended the governor’s foresight, emphasising the significance of commending him for the proposed appropriation bill.
Alhaji Tukur Umar (APC-Binji) echoed optimism, viewing the budget as a signal of hope for the state’s future prosperity.
Speaker Tukur Bala thereafter referred the fiscal policy to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for scrutiny and referral to standing committees for further legislative processes.
The Assembly then agreed to present a commendation letter to the governor, recognising the unanimous acceptance of the budget proposal in a voice vote.
In another development, a Bill to establish the state Community Guards Corps passed its second reading and is now with the House Committees on Security and Special Services, as well as Justice and Judiciary, for scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned sitting until Dec. 19, to allow members to actively participate in the 2024 budget defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). (NAN). READ ALSO:
