The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter, has appealed to the Anambra Sports Development Commission and the State Football Association (AnSFA) to end their feud in the interest of sports development in the state.
Recall that the AnSFA had banned one Chijioke Onyedika, a staff member of Sports Commission, over alleged anti-football activities for a period of five years, but the commission overruled the ban, arguing that the FA lacked the power to do this.
The Commission said Onyedika was only carrying out his duty assigned to him by the government as its staff and did not belong to the board of the AnSFA.
A statement, signed by Chimezie Anaso and Ikenna Nwokedi, SWAN Anambra Chairman and Secretary respectively, on Friday in Awka, called for the immediate and total ceasefire by all parties.
It said that the association frowned at the inflammatory comments made by the bodies and their proxies, noting that the face-off was not healthy for the progress of sports in the state.
“SWAN is reacting, not only because it was copiously copied in the letters by both parties, but as a critical stakeholder in the Anambra sports sector.
“We express our willingness to mediate with a view to finding amicable resolution to the issues.
“We appeal for an amicable and harmonious administrative environment for progressive development of sports,” it said. (NAN). READ ALSO:
