Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State, has announced a ‘personal donation’ of N50, 000 to each of the 210 state indigenes studying in various tertiary institutions in the country, who will excell in their academic performances.
The governor made the announcement on Monday in Katsina when disbursing scholarship allowances and award of excellence to some students.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 210 students were selected from various tertiary institutions across the country for their academic excellence.
NAN reports that the universities and Colleges of Education students must score a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.50 and above, while Polytechnic students should have CGPA of 3.50 and above to qualify.
“Quite a number of the students of state’s origin have CGPA of 4.50 and above from universities and 3.50 and above from polytechnics.
“This is a great testimony for the fact that students of the state are highly committed and making the state proud.
“We are also proud of you and you should beat your chest and tell everybody that you are from Katsina State, the home of hospitality; the famous state had produced most of the famous individuals in the country.
“I am urging other students to emulate what we are celebrating today so that we celebrate them tomorrow,’’ he said.
Radda assured his administration’s commitment in making the lives of students better by prompt payment of scholarships to them.
“I also want to make a personal donation to these brighter students that have excelled in their academic performance of N50, 000 each to the number I saw.
“It is not a government donation, it is a personal donation coming from me,’’ he said.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Aliyu Tukur, a student of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU), Katsina, who has 4.50 CPGA, thanked the governor for the gesture.
He said the award would boost his performance and other students toward achieving academic excellence.
Tukur added that their educational prowess would show that the state was still at the forefront in education. (NAN). READ ALSO:
